Nick Cave "The Mercy Seat"

Lesson description: I could’ve done a simple lesson on how to strum the chords to this classic--the progression is really interesting!

However, I am always curious to see how much of the vocal melody I can get to come alive under my fingers. Similar to my arrangement of Tom Waits’s “Tango ‘Till They’re Sore,” this one proved to be quite tricky in the first 12 bars as the melody is much closer to talk-singing than sing-singing.

Once I got to the chorus and switched to the abrasive spark of the tele bridge pickup, it all came to life (or death?)!
