Try This Hendrix "Watchtower" Lick, in 3 Octaves

Lesson description: This is what happens when you take one isolated lick from Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower," and push yourself to adapt it to other positions. To come up with this video, I tried the rapid-fire, unpredictable pentatonic run in E, G, A, C, and D. I decided that the best exercise would be to keep it in E, but move it through 3 octaves of minor pentatonic.

What I hope this demonstrates is that sometimes when working on a guitar hero's masterpiece solo, it's better to focus on a small part of it, and challenge yourself to really understand it, and adapt it--as opposed to sorta memorizing the whole solo.

This .pdf file includes the opening run, a review of the 5 positions of pentatonic minor, as well as bonus examples of the lick in open position G, A, C, and D.
