How to Use Chord Shapes to Do Cool Stuff With Standard Tuning Slide

Lesson description: I'm always trying to find ways to encourage folks to start playing around with slide. Depending on the song, it can be the perfect special something to really take things to a new place!

Typically, we think in terms of scale shapes. This is great when we have all our fingers to manipulate things and hop between strings. However, with slide I've noticed it yields better results to think in terms of CAGED chord shapes, and look for ways to swoop between them.

When I was thinking of a melody to showcase this, a vaguely western thing started happening, so I went with that. There's also a bit of George Harrison, and Pixies "Cecilia Ann" going on here.
