Billy Joel's "Movin' Out" With Marc Ribot Attitude

Lesson description: I grew up in Amityville, Long Island, until I was 12 years old, and Billy Joel's music was always around. It bonded with my young mind, and became part of my DNA, along with The Beatles, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Steely Dan, and Fleetwood Mac. These classic artists forever set the rules for song structure, melody, harmony, production, and perspective for me.

When I started working on this arrangement, I noticed that it could be ideal for Marc Ribot-style articulations--the minor key, m7b5 chords, harmonized 3rds, modal interchange, as well as the overall aggressive spirit of young Billy Joel pairs nicely with the spiky elegance of Ribot.
