A Post-Rock Take on "Girl From Ipanema"

Lesson description: This lesson was very much inspired by the jazz-ish inflections of the classic Chicago post-rock collaborative, Tortoise. I love jazz theory, chords, and melody, but I've never been much of a straight-ahead bebop player.

The idea here was to demonstrate how you can take the lovely, complex chordal colors of Jobim's "Girl From Ipanema" and put it in a context that is bit more minimal and modern than you'd expect. I lowered the voicings and the melody an octave more than a standard jazz chord solo, and took every opportunity to leave "air" in the piece.
