The "drunk Thelonious Monk" piano intro to this classic Waits tune always fascinated me. I'll be honest, I was not prepared for just how out-there those note choices are! Often times, I can understand why an artist chose a specific passage, or cluster of notes. In the case of Tom's piano opening, I won't lie: I'm baffled!

The rest of the song follows a i iv V7 minor key progression comfortably, though. So, if you can make it through the intro, you're golden!
